The smell of oak and wine. The old and the new. Connecting local people and building community. This wine shop is very much a way of life. The wine coasters combine old photos, which seek to capture an imagined past from the heritage listed building dating from 1541, with colourful flowers, which themselves cheekily obscure the faces of that past. This might hint at the bouquet of the wines or symbolise the blossoming, blooming and change in the house over the centuries, but perhaps it also just takes a wink at some of the inspired conversations overheard at the tasting table. For the typography, the new Times font was very deliberately chosen, being a transition from the old to the new without leaving the past behind. The fact that the classic Times font was revised last year made me want to use it for the design. Using its classic no-frills style in combination with the new Helvetica and the floral tones, we were able to simultaneously achieve a strikingly modern + classic look.
