For the fifth instalment of the programme series “INN SITU” at the BTV Stadtforum in Innsbruck the London-based artist Bettina von Zwehl explored the institution of the museum. Ambras Castle in Innsbruck is the oldest museum in the world and houses the only Renaissance chamber of art and wonders to have been preserved at its original location. This Wunderkammer lends the exhibition its name and serves as a strong source of inspiration for the communication design materials.
Curiosity and the delight of discovery are addressed through playful concealing and revealing – literally, through the multiple covers of the programme brochure; metaphorically, as echoed by the emerald-green, silver-grey and ruby-red bands of colours in the poster. A layout, itself resembling a collection, juxtaposes diverse (work-)typologies and image formats; images engage in an exciting dialogue and create a world of their own, generating – through recombination – new chains of associations in the viewer.
