Project Description

BACKGROUND
Under the anthem »Austria makes sense« Austria presents itself at EXPO 2020 Dubai with a striking pavilion inspired by Arabian wind tower architecture. It features an intelligent climate concept that allows the building to cool by itself with a constant airflow circulation. The exhibition consists of artistic sensory stations providing acoustic, haptic and optical experiences for the visitors as a radical cut inbetween the busy EXPO event.

DESIGN SOLUTION
This sets the base for the graphic system: a vivid color gradient that triggers the cone-shaped architecture and sensory concept, a custom made bespoke typeface and a strong iconography that became integral part in the inclusive exhibition design. The use of an intercultural icon language through the entrance area and the so called »iLab«—the main area of the exhibition featuring Austrian innovation—breaks down barriers for the visitors to enter into a non verbal dialogue with the pavilion and the experience.
