Project Description

The “Plauener Spitze” is the intangible landmark of the Vogtland region in Saxony. The designs of the “Nouveautés”, style-defining novelties of the lace industry, came mostly from the pen of the students of the art school in Plauen.
The focus of the exhibition is on the conflict between the students’ artistic motivation and the industry’s pressure to innovate on schools to regularly design new “Nouveautés” for the international competition.
Each chapter received its own “machine”. The scenographers translated the contents of the chapters into the form. The chapter on the drawing school has been translated into stylized drawing tables.
The galvanized steel frames, held together by industrial stake pallets, contrast with the tactile exhibits.
Exhibits are lined up on production lines. A conveyor belt connects two related chapters. The exhibition is designed as a traveling exhibition.
