Project Description

Poster for the theater play ‘Rechnitz (Der Würgeengel) by Elfriede Jelinek.
The Rechnitz massacre in Burgenland/Austria was one of the final crimes shortly before the end of world war II. The remains of the approximately 180 murdered Hungarian-Jewish forced laborers are still being searched for. The crime scene is suspected to be near the ‘Kreuzstadl’, a former farmstead. With her play Rechnitz (Der Würgeengel) – the strangling angel, Elfriede Jelinek counters the collective silence and suppression with a powerfully eloquent and haunting text.
