My father Artur Duniecki, graduate of the Technische Hochschule Wien, was first a student of and then worked for Schwanzer and Holzbauer before founding his own studio in 1975.
Framed by biographical flashbacks and an essay by Otto Kapfinger on Vienna's architectural history, the works are illustrated in the middle section to give a fine balance of texts and images.
The extremely diverse and poorly conserved archive material presented a significant challenge. There are decades of amateur snapshots and photocopies of photographs, plans and sketches, while there are few professionally documented buildings.
Facing the public on the cover is an architect's sketch, as plenty of space within the book's pages is similarly devoted to Duniecki's drawings, which have a particular significance in his œuvre as direct testimonies to the architectural imagination. Whereby clarity, impact and comprehensibility are foregrounded in a context of the designs' social, historical and political context.
