This bilingual volume about the »Wildling« Oskar Kokoschka suitably appears in a very confident – almost harsh – yet tactile and also sensible guise. Each of the contributions is composed by the German text, divided by a plate, section showing large images, from the English text. The typeface Balance is very strong in »colour« yet transmits a painterly notion while the voluminous paper and therefor impressive body of the book wrapped in the dark-smoky cover aptly reflect Kokoschka’s personality and/or how he liked to portray himself. Overall the design aims to inspire the scientific readership while being perfectly accessible instead of blinding or alienating its public.
