The publication Stressing Wachsmann offers a comprehensive overview of German-American architect Konrad Wachsmann’s oeuvre. His life-long obsession with detail and industrial production is expressed in the architecture of this book. Wachsmann’s fascination with ‘the knot’ – the connection – was the basis of many design decisions: The overemphasised book linen spanning across the spine of the false quater-bound volume, the choice of typeface, which itself was designed with strong connections in mind, the plate section – highlighted by the recessed fore edge – connecting the English and German texts, the layout and further more, all relate to Wachsmann’s intricate and pragmatic search for innovative architectural solutions.
