“On objects and their shadows” is an artbook by photographer Anna Lorenc. It's a visual essay, based on the portrayal of the concept of a shadow, refering to the history of artisiticartistic photography. The mMain motif is seen as a physical phenomenon, a metaphore and an archetype. The book is divided into two chapters: “objects and their shadows”, and “negatives and eclipses”. The designer was given an opportunity to propose her own way of reading the pictures in each chapter. The photos are split into individual narrations, that guide the reader through the book, leaving him with a wide range of interpretation. The bookbinding and printing method play an important role in the design. The book is printed on a high quality paper using three different Pantone colours, in order to obtain deep black tones with nuances crucial for the photos’ legibility. A hHalf-cloth bookbinding, with red endpapers and embossing on the front cover and spine, complement the design with an enigmatic feel.
