Project Description

This catalog was created to accompany the exhibition entitled >Sheila Hicks - Thread, Trees, River< at the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna
Sheila Hicks (*1934), an US-American artist who lives in Paris, eludes traditional notions of textile art. Hicks expands the language of sculpture, painting and the environment with new forms and dimensions in the connection between nature, textiles, colour, architecture and space.
‘The book as exhibition flow’. The book design refers both to the title of the exhibition and to the artist's objects. With a hand-made leporello fold binding, the catalog becomes an object and actually only has two pages. A long photo spread, which exactly depicts the exhibition flow in the MAK in sequence and a text only page. The respective front pages of the leporello - there is no dedicated back - are covered with Iris linen in two typical 'Hicks colours'. Only the banderole contains both the title and the back text and seals the book.
