Narbut XXI is a complex, multicomponent project to honor the outstanding Ukrainian artist Heorhii Narbut. It consists of two book publications, a poster competition and exhibition, a documentary, presentations, discussions and other events.

Goals are next. Rediscovery of the work of Heorhii Narbut. Gathering parts of his legacy. Updating the artist’s creative method for the artistic context of today and tomorrow.

This project is relevant to Ukraine and, we hope, interesting to the world since it presents the work of one of art’s greatest masters.

Today, one hundred years since Narbut’s death, the artist’s outstanding legacy can finally occupy a relevant place in the contemporary ethos of the new, independent Ukraine. Now, with Ukraine’s future uncertain and the state’s identity under threat, a retrospective look at Narbut’s national branding is more relevant than ever. It concerns an urgent question: what is modern Ukrainian culture, and who are contemporary Ukrainians?
