"Kaleo" is a project that I, Garam Sajdak, created with the illustrator Alexandra Spiller. The children's book measures 20x20 cm and spans 48 pages, with 50 colorful, vibrant illustrations. These were illustrated in Adobe Fressco and then finished in Adobe Photoshop for more plasticity. We purposefully chose the font Noto Sans SC to provide readers with the help of this sans-serif font an easy-to-read experience.
Kaleo the toucan lives with his parents on the island of "Trinidad" in the Caribbean. However, his father was robbed for illegal pet trade and Kaleo's mother wants to flee to a safe place located in Austria as soon as possible. Kaleo experiences many problems with integration - temperature changes, lack of food and longing. Through it all, his friends help him and show him a true friendship.
It is a journey about fears, loss, longing but also acceptance, trust and solidarity.
